The Celestron NeXYZ Universal 3-Axis Smartphone Adapter lets you turn your spotting scope, telescope, binocular, monocular or microscope into a lens for any smartphone camera, even for larger varieties like the iPhone 8 Plus! The adapter has three individual adjustment knobs for the X, Y and Z axes, allowing extremely precise alignment between your phone camera and the eyepiece of your optic. This gives you a huge leg up on other smartphone that limit adjustments to only two axes. The adapter can fit around eyepieces between 30 mm and 60 mm in diameter and includes a 21 mm adapter ring for microscope eyepieces.

Universal adaptability = impossibly complex function

In order to be universally adaptable, this adapter is very complex to use. I thought that if I got the x, y, and z axes set, then I could easily take it on and off the scope and it would be set the next time I put it on. That was rarely true. Mounting the adapter on the scope is difficult because it has to be perfectly placed to work. Putting the phone on the adapter requires two hands, and this often misaligns the adapter. Start over. The adapter with the phone is so heavy that it pulls the scope out of position. I found it impossible to see through the scope if I left the adapter on without the phone. The adapter is so awkwardly shaped that it will only fit into a large coat pocket with nothing else. After a year of frustration, I gave it away. I don’t recommend this adapter.
