The Swarovski Modular Objective 30-70x115 (Arca Swiss Foot) for the ATX/STX/BTX series of modular spotting scopes brings a new dimension to this system. The huge 115mm objective delivers higher resolution and a brighter image than the smaller objectives while maintaining the same zoom range (30-70x) and field of view (104'-57' at 1000 yds) as the 95mm objective module. The close focus distance of 15.7' is also the same as with the 95mm module. The 115mm objective module weighs in at 74.1oz, and is waterproof to 13' and nitrogen purged.
Without getting too deep into the physics, the formula for resolution, the ability to see finer detail, provided by a lens has the aperture diameter in the numerator. In the case of spotting scopes and binoculars, the objective size is the aperture, as there is not a diaphragm that can be adjusted as with a camera lens. The important thing to know is that given equivalent glass and coatings, a larger objective diameter means better resolution. The 115mm modular objective is the largest available among top end spotting scopes.

Excellent lens but not for expected reasons

The 115mm Swarovski is a wonderful lens. I also own a 65mm and a 95mm lens. All three lenses offer wonderful resolution and brightness; even the 65mm is surprisingly nice in comparison. When I compared the 115mm to the 95mm, I did not find the noticeable differences in resolution and brightness that I was expecting. Both lenses are great and perform relatively similarly. However, my excitement of the 115mm lens comes from the increased exit pupil, which improves my viewing experience over the 95mm lens but especially the 65 mm lens. I simply seem to sink into the image without any adjustment to the position of my eyes. Fantastic experience! I can’t stop looking through the glass. I also like how well balanced the 115mm lens is when coupled with the BTX, which eliminates a need for a balance rail (same is true for the ATX/95mm combo). I cannot imagine a better optical system than the BTX/115mm. One final comment. I noticed the ATX eyepiece produces a brighter image that the BTX. It is my impression that images with the ATX/95mm are about as bright at 50x as images with the BTX/115mm at 35x.
